Charcoal advisor

Which charcoal should I buy? Which charcoal is the best? Should I charcoalor maybe briquettesto buy? What are the differences between traditional charcoal and briquettes? These are just a few of the questions that keep coming up in the BBQ. Unfortunately, most of these questions can not be answered on a flat-rate basis, because the best coal for your personal needs and needs depends on many different criteria that we will discuss in detail in this article.

Which is the best charcoal?

Of the charcoal comes as well as one car tirein a car, an extremely important role too. When grilling is the charcoal , of course, next to the grill, the most important element. After all, you place the grilled meat, the vegetables and other barbecue items directly over the charcoal or briquettes. This means of course that your grilled food to a large extent the direct influence of charcoal is exposed. Therefore, when buying charcoal or briquettes, you should be well informed about their properties and quality in order to achieve an optimal barbecue experience. Traditional charcoal is usually charred wood. In the first production step, the wood is stored and dried, after which it is heated under heat in an oven at about 550 degrees Celsius. The heating process takes place in the absence of air, as this can achieve a much higher process temperature, whereby all waste products such. As acids and tars are discarded, which has a significantly positive effect on the quality of the charcoal obtained. The carbon content obtained by this process is an important quality feature for burning in the grill. The higher the carbon content, the faster the coal burns and reaches the desired temperature.

Charcoal, wood briquettes and coconut charcoal

The difference between charcoal and wood briquettes can be explained quickly. Traditional charcoal is burned wood, which, if you look closely, can clearly see the wood structure. You are certainly already in contact with these coarse and irregular pieces of wood. Wood briquettes, on the other hand, are produced from charcoal dust and become too small with food-grade starch pillowpressed in egg form. Charcoal is highly flammable and can be brought to temperature within a few minutes. Wood briquettes, however, take much longer to reach the temperature needed for grilling. This, of course, is due to the fact that briquettes have a much higher density than ordinary charcoal. That’s why wood briquettes also have a very long burn time, which can not be achieved with the same amount of charcoal. In addition to these two grill classics, there is also a third candidate, namely the cocoa or coconut briquettes. These are relatively new in the market in Germany and are not known to most barbecue friends. It is charcoal produced from waste products produced by coconut oil and coconut milk production. So no trees are felled here, but only residual products are used, which is particularly environmentally friendly. Coconut shells, in contrast to other types of wood have a higher density, which is why coconut briquettes, which hardly differ externally from ordinary wood briquettes, have a higher calorific value. As a result, coconut briquettes burn much longer and hotter than comparable wood briquettes, so that the remaining ashes in comparison to charcoal and wood briquettes is very low. No matter whether you choose ordinary charcoal, wood briquettes or the slightly more expensive cocoa coal, you should by no means walk to the nearest gas station and buy the necessary barbecue utensils. In Germany, there are numerous specialist dealers who offer high-quality charcoal and grill briquettes, which have been thoroughly tested by the TÜV and are provided with a seal of quality.
