Ink & Toner Guide

Ink or toner – which printer type is suitable for whom?

On printeris now available in almost every household for private use. But before you go out to buy such a device, you should first think carefully about how much you want to print at all.
Many still decide on the following principle: if you want to print photos or colored documents, only one comes inkjetin question and if you only want black and white printouts and these as fast as possible, then one is laserideal. But that is now obsolete, because the technology is developing rapidly. Nowadays it is equally possible to obtain color prints with a laser printer, as well as to print a high number of documents with an inkjet printer. However, there are still differences between the two types and we show them now:

What exactly do I want to print?

That’s the most important question before getting a printer into the house. What kind of documents or printouts do I mainly want to have on paper? If you are printing photos, the inkjet printer is still the best choice because it is capable of producing high quality photo paperto print with excellent results and clear colors. If, on the other hand, one wishes to ban letters, invoices or documents without colored highlights on paper, a so-called monochrome laser printer is the solution. But if you are a fan of color prints with graphics or similar, but you do not need to use special paper, then a color laser printer may well be considered before an inkjet printer.

How much does ink or toner cost me?

It is like so often with a purchase. The device itself is quite affordable and maybe even a bargain. But the deciding factors for the purchase of an inkjet or laser printer are the follow-up costs. For example, for a laser printer, it is necessary to regularly buy in toner that is relatively expensive. Laser printers, regardless of whether they are black and white or in color, are generally more expensive to buy than inkjet printers and you also have to dig deeper into the bag when it comes to toner. What compensates for the price difference, however, is the number of pages that can be printed with a toner. Because this is much higher than that with an inkjet printer. However, the handle to a laser printer is only worthwhile for anyone who really prints a lot, since the toner cartridges dry up when not in use and thus become unusable. Then you do not save money, but lose one more.
The inkjet printer is generally cheaper to buy, but proposes a set of new ink cartridges (usually you have here four colors: black, magenta, cyan and yellow) with a price of 30 to 60 euros to book – depending on the manufacturer.

Conclusion:

If you are one of those who would like to print something from time to time, the inkjet printer is ideal. The ink cartridges are cheaper, but do not last as long as toner for the laser printer. Nevertheless, the purchase of an inkjet printer makes more sense, because the inks are used up faster and so do not run the risk of drying. However, one should not be blinded by devices that are extremely cheap to buy. Always ask before buying how expensive a new set of ink cartridges is. Otherwise, there is a good chance that the price of the ink is so high that it pays off in retrospect.

So again: do not make a gut decision, but think carefully before buying a printer, for what and how often you want to use the printer. Then the print fun can start without remorse!
