Tin Nibbler Guide

On Nibbling , also called Knabberstanze, is an integral part of every workshop. What this is for Toolused and in which versions it gives this to buy, read in the following article.

General and use

Of the Nibbling is a hand-held power tool that belongs to the group of punching tools. With the help of a nibbler punch, the craftsman can separate workpieces of low thickness from materials such as iron, steel, light metal or plastics with even, slightly profiled or corrugated surfaces. Occasionally, the tool can also be used to process stainless steel sheets, but this is only possible to a limited extent.

But how is the tool actually put together? The two essential components of the separating tool are in the Nibbling the die mounted in a rigid foot and the matching stamp. The stamp performs by the permanent upward and downward movement of the desired punched in the material. During the process, a cutting track is produced as waste in the width of the punch. In contrast to tin snips, which you will get to know later in this article, the punching process is done with a Nibbling no significant distortions on one of the two cutting edges. Both sides of the metal are free of delay here. The punching tool is driven, similar to a commercial one jigsaw, by a motor offset by 90 °, which at the same time forms the handle of the sheet metal nibbler.

Confusion at the customer often provides the variety of different terms, but all mean the same tool. Earlier colloquially, today universally valid, the term Nibbler punch prevailed. The short form is simply nibbler or Nibbling , which is now the most common name for the tool. Some also know the name Nibbler, which comes from English, as well as the term rodents.

Versions of the product

One can acquire the Blechknabber in different variants.
The following section presents you with a selection:

Westfalia Blechknabber attachment for drills and cordless screwdrivers

If you already own one drilling machine, a pneumatic tool or the like, you can connect this compact attachment to it. The manufacturer promises that even tight radii and precise cutouts are effortlessly possible. In addition, there would be no sparking or deformation of the machined material. Supplied with a header with 2 heads, a screw-on handle, an additional knife guide (cutting staff) and cutting knife and assembly key. This product is certainly a good choice for any already well-equipped craftsman.

Hazet Tin Nibbler, 9036-1

This variant is an independent device, which of course is more expensive than the intent. According to the manufacturer Hazet, the tin nibble is ideal for cuts with small radii, whereby the minimum number is seven millimeters. In addition, the tool should also be suitable for plastic cuts, and provide a continuous speed control. The cutting performance is up to 1.2 mm for steel and up to 1.6 mm for aluminum. The operation is to be facilitated by a cold-insulated handle and a double-bearing spindle, which provides vibration damping.

BGS Nibbler Scissors

The Knabber-Blechschere represents an inexpensive alternative to the classic Nibbler punching. It cuts SM sheets of up to 1.2 mm thickness and plastic pipes and material up to 2 mm wall thickness. Working with a pair of scissors is much more strenuous, but if you rarely use them, it makes more sense to invest less in such a tool.
