Inlet guide

What is a tick and what function does it take?

The shellone bedcover, which encloses the filling, is in the jargon as tick designated. For many people describes one tick colloquially but also the complete duvet including filling. Strictly speaking, this is actually the pure fabric for duvetsor down comforters.
Basically, this case must fulfill some important functions. On the one hand, it should prevent down or feathers from penetrating to the outside, but at the same time it must also ensure that the smallest particles, such as dust or dander, do not get inside. Nevertheless, one may tick not too tight, so that moisture and air can still pass unhindered.
When buying an inlay, consumers are best guided by the following rule of thumb: the softer the filling of the duvet should be, which is usually reflected in a higher down proportion, the finer the quality of the inlet should be, because the beneficial properties of down and feathers otherwise can not optimally come into their own.

Cassette quilting: still the most common

Inlets are divided into individual areas so that the filling can not slip. Thanks to quilting, feathers and down unfold their effect exactly where they are needed. This ultimately also saves filling material, so that the entire blanketnot quite as hard as a comparable quilt without quilting.
Cassette quilting (eg from Billerbeck) has become particularly established on the market. The tick is divided into individual cassettes or squares. Feathers and down are filled so that they can not slip out of the cassettes or squares. However, the two panels must not be sewn together, otherwise cold spots could occur. Rather, the webs get a web-like compound of fabric, which is different depending on the Inlett. But more and more is also the so-called sleep-conform body shape quilting, which looks a bit like waves. Your advantage: the enormous adaptability to the individual body contours. The manufacturer Irisette leads in this context some interesting novelties.

Flat and voluminous inlets

If the bridge height is about two centimeters, this results in quite flat cassettes, which offer only relatively little space for the filling. As a result, such a comforter will also be rather thin: It is then mainly suitable for the warmer months in spring and summer. At a web height of up to ten centimeters, the whole thing looks different: The individual cassettes are so bulky in this case, that fits a large amount of feathers or down. This creates a very warm duvet, perfect for the cold winter months.

What is the preferred material for an inlay?

Cotton is still the most common material for an inlay. No wonder, because the fabric has many good properties. It is skin-friendly, durable, durable and feels very comfortable. If a cotton ticking is filled with feathers or down, tiny air cushions form in between, ensuring that the blanket warms optimally and the sleeper does not freeze.
If you want to do without down and feathers and prefer a filling made of polyester, you have the opportunity to choose a fabric made of microfiber. This material is very soft and fits perfectly to the body.
By the way, inlays have been available in many different colors for years. In addition to the classics white and beige dominate in this area also blue and rose.
