Crumpled paper at the writing desk, the peanut shells in the living room and the sausage pack in the kitchen: everything has to disappear somewhere, where it is kept as odorless and invisibly safe as possible until it is finally disposed of. Of the Trashcan gratefully accepts everything that happens daily. But there are differences, which are also reflected in the designation.

Trash: Not just for the desk

Waste separation is a big issue in Germany compared to other countries. Tretmülleimer provide for odor neutrality

Wherever the swing lid still leaves too much air in and out and thus provides for smells, the Tretmülleimer is the better choice. This Trashcan can be opened with a kick on a pedal, the gently swinging lid closes otherwise quite tight. The advantage of this bucket lies in the ease of use: wet or dirty hands in the kitchen are no problem, the lid is moved with the foot. In addition to the toilet, the bucket is perhaps not the best solution, because it requires some acrobatics to operate out of the typical (female) toilet keeping out. But in the bathroom, kitchen, hall and nursery, the bucket is in good hands and does an excellent job. Incidentally, the inner bucket can be taken out and carried over a handle, so that the Tretmülleimer is just as easy to empty as the trash. The inner pails of most rubbish bins have to be replaced from time to time. Therefore, it is worthwhile to buy models with common dimensions. So only the inner bucket has to be replaced and not the complete model.

And the material?

Plastics sometimes absorb odors and decompose when in contact with acids in detergents or fruit waste. The metal bucket is much more durable and hygienic, but also less frequent and more expensive. Trash cans made of wicker, textiles, wood or bamboo are only suitable for dry waste such as paper, otherwise they quickly become unsightly and above all unhygienic. Because these materials absorb moisture and hold them, they are also difficult to clean.
