Guide to the topic tester

In the kitchen there are a variety of appliances and accessories, which are used for the preparation of various dishes and processing of various ingredients. While much of the work today is done by a huge assortment of electrical and mostly multi-functional kitchen appliances, old, little-known and hand-crafted kitchen accessories are increasingly being forgotten. Small kitchen appliances can often be very useful and can prepare special dishes or effective decorations in a few simple steps. One of these kitchen appliances is the tester , Other names that are used more often are Zestenreißer, or, from the French, Zesteur. It is a combination of scraperand graters, which serves to scrape so-called Zesten, so very fine slices of the outermost layer of the shells of fruit and vegetables. There are these small kitchen helpers in different designs and with it can be many different dishes produced, or at least refine and visually enhance by small Fabtupfer.

applications

A variety of dishes are based on certain fruits and vegetables processed therein. Often, however, it is the case that the fruits are processed in a cream, sauce or other form of preparation and only the taste is obviously attributable. The look, and often the color, is completely lost in the midst of a multitude of other ingredients. So that the finished dish or a drink can be visually associated with the ingredients contained, it makes sense to garnish this with pieces of the respective fruit and vegetables. In particular of many types of fruit can be quite cut slices, or even use whole, small rumors. In many cases, however, this is not possible or not desirable. In part, even a portion of the fruit is of particular interest for possible decoration, as the remainder of the fruit, whether of the color, consistency or aroma, is less suitable for this purpose. This is often the case with citrus fruits in particular. The pulp can only be processed in comparatively thick slices, although for many of the particularly acidic varieties, this is not a suitable option. Therefore, the fruit peel of citrus fruits is of particular interest. It contains a variety of flavors, and the shell also has strong colors. The disadvantage, however, is that it is only the thin, outer layer of the shell. Only a few animals already have the white layer of the shell. This in turn contains no flavors, has no nice consistency and is rich in bitter substances that spoil the taste.

Types of testern and advantages over other kitchen appliances

Of the tester consists of a handle, at the end of a metal plate, sits in the manner of a scraper. This plate, which could also be referred to as a blade, is provided at its end with a single row of holes. These holes are the real ones Toolof testers. With the controlled pull over the Fruchtschale thereby Zesten, thus fine, often very narrow and thin, however long strips from the fruit are scraped off. The mode of operation is therefore similar to that of a coarser kitchen grater. The difference is especially in the greater precision, since the tester better along the round shape of a fruit can be performed, than that the fruit itself would have to be turned on the kitchen grater. Since the holes of the testers are comparatively small, only thin strips can be scraped off. For some dishes or drinks, however, wider stripes are the better choice. For this has the tester another, single hole on one side of the blade. However, there are also variations with only one hole – these are more like sparse peelers. Cheap tester are made of plastic, high quality models completely made of stainless steel.
