LED plant light guide

Everyone knows that plants need enough light for healthy growth. Not only the amount of light, but also the quality of the light plays a decisive role. Optimal, of course, is always the natural daylight. The plants have always been adapted to this and can best utilize daylight. That contained in the plants chlorophyllis responsible for the absorption of light energy. Chlorophyll is also called a green leaf dye. With its help, the carbon dioxide in the green parts of the plant is converted from the air into starch and oxygen. The starch requires the plant for growth. As a result, the plants appear almost black if no green light is present.

So that plants can optimally grow and thrive even under the unfavorable lighting conditions in their own four walls, illuminants specially tailored to the light requirements of the plants are required. Until not so long ago, plants were illuminated with a combination of cool white fluorescent tubes and yellow-emitting sodium vapor lamps. However, the yield of light with the optimum wavelength was just as low as the power consumption.

Modern LED plant lights are tailored to the light requirements of the plants. For the most part, they radiate the blue and red light that is optimally usable by plants. Plants can use almost all the light of LED plant lights for energy.

The most important point in selecting a suitable plant lamp is to match as closely as possible the absorption spectrum of the chlorophyll species and the spectrum of light emitted by the plant lamp. The more accurate the match, the better the lamp is suitable for promoting plant growth.
The light intensity is another important criterion. In particular, the illuminance in Lux is important. The illuminance depends largely on the distance between the lamp and the illuminated area and the size of the illuminated area. This means that an LED plant light allows a higher yield per unit of energy consumed (kWh) than normal plant lights.

In LED plant lighting, quality plays an important role. The quality of the luminaire with regard to the radiated light spectrum and the light intensity has a decisive influence on the performance of the luminaire and thus the growth of the plants. The differences in the plant lights are sometimes considerable, so a comparison will always be worthwhile. Although LED plant lights have become much more affordable now than a few years ago, but a few extra euros for a high-quality plant lamp are always well-spent money.
