Grid light – the perfect solution for offices and commercial spaces

Anyone responsible for the lighting of offices, workrooms or shops must take many factors into account when selecting the light sources. The illuminance must be sufficient for the intended purpose. The harder the task is for the human eye, the higher the illuminance must be. The light color must be chosen so that it is perceived by the users of the room on the one hand as pleasant and on the other hand, the concentration on the activity promotes.

When it comes to the lighting of an office, the requirements are particularly high, since most office work today is done on VDU workstations. In order to avoid straining the eyes when working in such workplaces, the light distribution in the room must be as even as possible and no reflections of the light on the room must be made monitorfall. Just a few years ago, almost all offices were home to the Louvrelight with fluorescent tubes as standard. Today, in this area, the fluorescent tubes are increasingly displaced by LED tubes. Although the purchase price for LED tubes is still significantly higher than the price of the fluorescent tubes, the investment pays for itself after only a short period of operation. An LED tube requires significantly less electrical energy than the classic fluorescent tube to provide the same level of illumination. In addition, the life of the LED tube is much higher. If you opt for LED tubes, you can choose between different light colors, just like the fluorescent tubes.

The light colors are usually given in Kelvin (K). An LED tube with a value up to 3,300 K produces warm white light. This corresponds approximately to the light color, which we are used to from the classic light bulb. This light is perceived by humans as comfortable and relaxing, therefore, such lighting should be reserved for the break room. Neutral white light is optimal for the office. Therefore, the grid lights in offices are usually equipped with LED or fluorescent tubes with a value between 3,300 K and 5,300 K. Bulbs with a value greater than 5,300 K provide a light that is referred to as daylight white or cold white. These fluorescent or LED tubes are used wherever fine lines or color differences have to be detected, as is the case in printing shops or architectural offices.
