External TV receiver guide

External TV receivers can be used in different situations. Here we introduce typical user examples.

Digital TV reception

If your own TVIf there is no internal receiver for digital television, additional retrofitting with an external TV receiver is possible.
There are basically two things to keep in mind:
Once the question arises whether the television, especially an old model, has the necessary connections for the external receiver.
On the other hand, you should check whether the screen technology of the television can represent the digital quality at all.
A new television with this technology is nowadays almost certainly an internal receiver that handles the processing and routing of digital signals.
The reception of digital television is basically also with PCand associated screen possible and popular with young people. It corresponds to the trend for a device for many functions. Of course, the PC and the screen must be designed for reception in high digital quality.
The digital signal can basically come to the customer in three ways: Per antenna, by cable or by satellite.

Digital TV DVB-T via antenna

Antenna reception is the oldest and simplest technique. A roof antenna or sometimes even an indoor antenna is enough. This is connected to the external TV receiver. Of course the package has to be suitable for digital TV.
The extended station reception is already possible, via indoor antenna on the road, for example in the motorhome or in the garden.
Disadvantages are the low transmitter capacity. Pay TV like SKY is only available via cable or satellite. Antennas can be disturbed by the three reception possibilities to the greatest extent by external influences. For indoor antennas, this is already enough for a person walking in the room.

Digital TV DVB-C via cable

When digital television is fed into the cable, there are significantly more programs to receive than by antenna. Also, the reception is better and unlike the antenna from external factors largely independent.
Here, however, the user is asked the most to checkout: In addition to external TV receiver incur regular cable connection fees. Some broadcasters are encrypted and will only be released for a subscription fee.
The best known providers are Kabel Deutschland and SKY.

Digital TV DVB-S via satellite

This technique has been available for years. Advantage is the even greater variety of programs compared to cable connection, especially in the international area. Also, the costs are limited to the unique purchase of the satellite system and the receiver. Of course, there are also stations that need to be subscribed for money.
Disadvantages may include the attachment to a house, the sometimes costly wiring and the very possible interference with the reception by external influences such as weather. Even if these factors are not as strong as with an antenna, the aspect can not be denied.

TV plus cinema

An additional option is provided by external devices, which are also able to show movies on demand, to „stream“. There are offers from Amazon, Chromacast or Apple TV. For this one needs beside an external receiver an Internet connection with sufficiently large capacity. The advantage is that you can borrow or buy products from a large selection of old or new films. Some movie offers are even free. Disadvantage is that also television reception by free installation of apps is possible. The transmitter scope is very low.
