In addition, the clothing must be made of materials that are breathable and create a pleasant microclimate on the body. Such clothing is in the form of jackets, especially in the cold season, absolutely commonplace. All conceivable well-known textile manufacturers advertise with innovative materials that keep you warm, that are particularly weatherproof and very comfortable to wear. But with rain pants this looks very different. Here, the market is much smaller, because at least in everyday life, the pants when walking is largely protected by the jacket and there is hardly a need for rain pants.

Which type of rain pants is suitable for whom?

Since the market is comparatively small, one must pay attention accordingly to the quality. It depends on the purpose for which you need the pants and on the technical data of the material. Depending on what kind of activity you want rain pants needed, it has to provide more or less freedom of movement. For this purpose one has the choice between hardshell and softshell materials. Hardshell textiles are made of several layers of relatively strong and therefore rigid materials. They are particularly weather-resistant, but mostly intended as an extra protective layer over other clothing. The freedom of movement is one of such rain pants clearly limited, which makes it more suitable for heavy work that does not rely so much on comfort. Softshell textiles are much thinner and more flexible. This results in a slightly worse protection against heavy rain. Which one should you pay attention to?

Rain pants are elaborately made garments made of the most modern materials that have to fulfill many tasks. Therefore, it is important to choose a product that meets the high requirements. The most important ingredient is the water-repellent outermost layer of material. The material is technically evaluated as that for tents by the tightness is given with millimeters of water. Here, the material is exposed to a certain water pressure until water seeps through. In this case, 10,000 mm water column correspond to a pressure of just under 1 bar. For the inner layer of material, the permeability to water vapor, ie evaporated body fluid or minimal rainfall, is particularly important. The value is sometimes given as vapor pressure passage and the rain pants is the more breathable the higher this value is. Thus, the wearing comfort is higher and there is no moist-warm microclimate under the rain pants. Ultimately, it comes in terms of comfort on the lining. Here above all the personal feeling counts. A thick lining can warm in winter, but interfere in the summer and it takes in any case further freedom of movement. To assess the suitability, this must ultimately be tried out by yourself.
