Men’s Trail Running Guide

The word Trail is of English origin and means as much as way. Accordingly, trail running is about running on non-negotiable tracks through the terrain. For this purpose, special off-road boots are necessary, which are characterized by an optimal off-road capability and weather resistance.

What are trainer boots?

Traill boots are off-road boots geared to the specific needs of off-road running. Modern trail shoes have an outsole, which is only conditionally usable for everyday use. Here are particularly coarse sole profiles such as integrated spikes or studded profiles are used, which ensure a particularly good grip in the field. Because the finer and more even the sole profile, the faster the sole is added with dirt. The shoe loses much grip, which can be extremely dangerous in the field. Another characteristic feature of modern trail running shoes is the robust shaft, which is made of waterproof and dirt-resistant materials on many models.

In addition, many models use additional synthetic overlays, such as Kevlar or leather, as well as more stable mesh materials. In terms of water resistance, however, there are serious differences. While some models offer virtually no water protection just like ordinary street shoes, there are trail running shoes with extremely good moisture protection. If the stock is made of functional materials such as Gore-Tex, then you can count on it to be really waterproof. Another characteristic feature of modern Traillaufschuhe is the closed flap, so that water, snow and dirt can enter only at the ankle in the shoe.

Most trailers are equipped with a reinforced toe box to provide the toe of the runner the best possible protection. This plays an important role, especially in rocky terrain. To ensure a good grip and a stable foot posture, the midsole is made flatter. As a result, the foot is closer to the ground, which ensures a better impression and the risk of Fußumknickens is significantly reduced. As with ordinary road running shoes, some models of running shoes without pronation support are also available. However, these supports are less pronounced in trail shoes, because it depends more flexibility on the ground than on stability. This allows the forefoot and forefoot to move independently of each other, offering the athlete an optimal compromise between stability and flexibility.

All-Terrain running shoes with roadworthiness

Basically, it is true that most trail shoe models are also suitable for road use. Of course, it always depends on the individual model. A major disadvantage, however, is that the grippy sole profile wears off much faster on road surfaces. In my experience, proper trailers should only be used off-road and on short asphalt sections. In addition to traditional Traillaufschuhen are now also so-called „all-Terain running shoes“ available. These include functional running Shoesthat are made both for running on the ground and on asphalt. Sporting goods manufacturers advertise that these shoes can be used everywhere and always, which, however, only partially corresponds to the truth. Many of these models are only dark colored versions of ordinary road running shoes, which is why the characteristics mentioned in the paragraph above apply only partially.

If you like running in the field and even in bad weather, then you should definitely consider the purchase of high-quality Traillaufschuhen. But a trail runner only makes sense if you are mainly on loose ground. If you are only in good weather and also only on paved roads and asphalt run, then you also get along with an ordinary road running shoe.
