Trio d'Estate
c/o Chuck Holdeman Trio d'Estate (Italian for "summer") offers new ways of stimulating young audiences to explore music and incorporate students' own musical ideas into creative compositions. Using simple percussion at elementary schools, or student instrumentalists in grades 4 and up, trio member Chuck Holdeman leads students to actively explore elements of composition from the Trio's repertoire. Core group students engage in improvisation exercises, leading to original compositions performed in a joint concert with Trio d'Estate at the residency's culmination. Chuck Holdeman also works with other classes by relating music and composition to other curricular areas. The residency's content is directly related to the VPAC standards. Suitable for grades K-12 Education/Experience: Trio d'Estate has been in residence at several schools through the DIAE and DDOA residency programs. Each residency has resulted in the addition of a new piece to the trio's repertoire, based on student ideas. Chuck Holdeman is a composer and principal bassoonist of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra; Carol Brown is its principal flutist. Julie Nishimura is staff pianist for the University of Delaware Music Department and is frequently featured in area chamber music and orchestral programs. Special Training: Chuck Holdeman has received Very Special Arts-Delaware training, Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education training, and Delaware Wolf Trap training |
