Mrs. Michel offers a creative historical journal writing residency that combines research, reporting, story writing, poetry, and newspaper art as students create a newspaper/ journal highlighting a time or local historical event. Often working from copies of old Delaware newspapers and books, students read; role-play an interview; write articles, editorials, advertisements, and letters; and draw maps, cartoons, and illustrations. Local topics covered in the past include, the Underground Railroad, Delaware colonial life, pirates on the Delaware River, or the Lenni Lenape, along with world topics such as Egyptian childhood, 2000 BC. Suitable for grades 3-8 Education/Experience: BA, Stanford University; Master Poet Certification in Delaware; many artist residencies. Availability: Open |
