StarSpirit Nana Korantemaa incorporates African cultural expressions with her own American experiences to perpetuate a legacy of African-American pride. She takes students on a cultural tour of Africa through the use of authentic artifacts, dance, music, and storytelling. Her residencies include her own performance as well as one by students in which student-made masks and costumes are used to perform dances, songs, and games learned from African cultures. Nana Korantemaa encourages the use of creative and critical thinking and emphasizes the importance of integrating the arts and education. Her residencies are designed to complement the ongoing curriculum and serve as a catalyst for a more positive understanding of our multi-cultural society. Suitable for grades K-12 Education/Experience: BA, Antioch University, Philadelphia; study in Africa for seven years; numerous performances and residencies; experience with hearing impaired and emotionally disabled.
