PO Box 423 Composer and bassoonist Chuck Holdeman is available to schools for opportunity grant residencies and as a consultant and facilitator in the new Partnership program. Chuck stresses student creativity with a hands-on approach, leading participants through a process of getting the flow going, defining goals, getting ideas clear and compelling, and then practicing for the culmination of live performance or recording. Music students and teachers benefit greatly from his work with improvisation and composition, and other classes find stimulation and motivation by using creative music as a medium for exploring themes such as factors in math, a Shakespeare play, or other cultures. Chuck's work is directly related to the state standards, particularly to aid in developing curricula to attain the standards for music improvisation, and making new pieces and arrangements. Education/Experience: In 1999, Chuck Holdeman was named Composer of the Year by the Pennsylvania and Delaware State Music Teachers Associations, and in 2000 he received the first Master Artist Fellowship to be awarded by the Delaware Division of the Arts. In 2003 he received the Beekhuis Award for outstanding performance and service in the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. His many residencies have been sponsored by the DE Institute for the Arts in Education, the DE Symphony, Meet the Composer, VSA of Delaware, Centrum, the Washington State Arts Commission, Hampden-Sydney College, DE Wolf Trap (which provides services to Head Start centers around the state), and the DDOA. Special Training: VSA for students with disabilities, DIAE in aesthetic education exercises, and Wolf Trap Institute for early childhood performing arts. Availability: Chuck Holdeman has open availability, pending scheduling. |
