531 Elm Street William Foreman offers students and teachers an opportunity to experience new artistic ideas and techniques for creating surrealistic sculptures using wood, fiberglass, and/or plaster. He defines the concept of surrealism using slides of his work and that of some famous surrealist artists as examples. Students then develop their own surreal images. He is able to take complex concepts and translate them into language easily understood by his students, adjusting his presentation for any age level. Younger students work with basic art class materials such as clay, paper, and modeling wood, while high school students observe and learn the artist's mold-making process using plaster or fiberglass. The resulting molded forms are then used to create individual surrealistic projects. Industrial arts classes are ideal settings for utilizing his working techniques. Suitable for grades K-12 Education/Experience: BFA in Painting and MFA in Sculpture, Arizona State University; many artist residencies. Availability: Open |
