250 W. Harvey Street Barbara Bullock's work is a response to her experiences in Africa, New Mexico, Jamaica, Spain, and Haiti. Her drawings, paintings, and sculptures capture the emotions and dignity of rituals and ceremonial celebrations represented in these cultures. Her goal with each residency is to share her experiences as a visual artist by developing projects that inspire creativity and turn the learning experience into functional art. Students gain knowledge in how to experiment with color and the use of form, shape and design. Ms. Bullock guides teachers in selecting projects geared to the individual needs of each student. In a residency, Ms. Bullock and the class develop a theme for a painted mural, fabric banner, or story quilt project and proceed to translate the theme and subsequent drawings into colorful works of art that reflect diverse cultural values. Throughout the residency, the artist demonstrates to students the importance of research, experimentation, imagination, and the elements of design in creatively interpreting the chosen subject. Suitable for grades 1–6 Education/Experience: Attended the Hussian School of Art, Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia School Art League; many artist residencies; some experience with special populations.
