P.O. Box 1046 Beth Phillips Brown's workshops are based on a deep knowledge and understanding of her Welsh-American heritage and diverse cultures' mytho-poetic traditions. Poetry from Wales and other cultures is used to illustrate common themes and varied writing techniques stimulating students' curiosity and promoting cross-curricular work. Classroom activities include: creating images using objects from nature; writing poems in response to music, dance or visual art; exploring multi-cultural/mythological perspective; translating short Welsh poems to stimulate creative thinking based on a new sound. Beth works with classroom teachers to determine curricular areas particularly receptive to interaction with poetry. Common themes, varied writing techniques, and oral reading skills can be partnered with American history, language arts, and social studies. Resource to subject areas: English, Science, Social Studies, Arts. Suitable for grades 3-12 (pre-K through third grade under special circumstances) Education/Experience: BA degree in English, Immaculata College; study of Welsh language and literature, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth; PA Council on the Arts artist; NJPAC Early Learning through the Arts (NJ Wolf Trap Program).
