15 Yale Square, Morton, PA 19070 Trudi Battershall involves students and teachers in the tactile and sculptural possibilities of clay including, if possible, the technique of smoke-finishing in a primitive sawdust kiln similar to that used by Southwestern U.S. Indians. After learning the vocabulary of ceramics, students then study the clay products of various cultures, learn about the scientific aspects of clay processes, and focus on creating pieces such as individual tiles for a mural. Slide shows about the clay process and the artist's work can be included. Suitable for grades K-12 Education/Experience: BFA and MFA, University of Pennsylvania; Art graduate level ceramics, Philadelphia College of Art; study at Barnes Foundation, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and Escuela Massana of Barcelona, Spain; 35 years teaching experience in elementary to college levels; many artist residencies.
