Web-based arts and cultural calendar to launch in mid-October

DelawareScene.com is a comprehensive, up-to-date website calendar sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts that features the state’s arts and cultural events and attractions. As a web-based calendar, it will be accessible to anyone with Internet access, and it will not be bound by the limitations of print calendars!

The Division is now accepting arts and cultural event information from Delaware venues. Click here to learn more about submitting your events. A special email announcement will be sent once the calendar is live.

NAHM LogoOctober is Arts and Humanities Month

Here are five ideas to promote the arts and humanities in Delaware:

  1. Attend an art or cultural event in your community and write a letter about your experience to your local representative.

  2. Become a member of your favorite local arts organization.

  3. Stop by Wilmington's "Art Attack" event on 9th Street between Shipley and West Street on October 3rd from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. for a sneak preview of the Wilmington fall arts season and stay for Art Loop.

  4. Read the Division's FY2008 Annual Report in The News Journal on October 1st. The issue focuses on education and learning in the arts.

  5. Bookmark www.DelawareScene.com and check it out in late October.

For more ideas on how to celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month, visit the Americans for the Arts NAHM webpage.

Tell us how we’re doing…

As part of our commitment to providing quality service to our constituents, we have developed an online survey to find out from you how you think we’re doing. We invite you to take five minutes to complete the survey. Your input is extremely valuable to us. We’ll be closing out the survey after September 30th, so let us know soon!

To be considered for service on a grant review panel, you may nominate yourself or someone else to the pool. Download these documents:

Division seeks nominations for grant review panelists

The Delaware Division of the Arts recruits Delaware citizens every year to review grant applications for state funding of the arts. The Division selects panelists based on their knowledge and experience in the arts, in related fields, and in the community.

We are currently trying to build up our existing pool of potential panelists for the spring 2009 grant review season. If you or someone you know are interested, we encourage you to submit a nomination form. If you have submitted a nomination form within the last year, please be assured that you are still under consideration for serving on a panel. We are particularly looking to expand the ethnic, racial, and demographic diversity of our pool of panel candidates.

New program for emerging arts organizations

The Division of the Arts introduces STARTUP, a new program to provide the tools and training for emerging arts organizations to get a firm footing and become sustainable over time. STARTUP will be the entry-level program for new organizations that wish to become eligible for General Operating Support, once they have demonstrated basic competencies in fiscal management, board development, and marketing and strategic planning.

The program is comprised of training, consultant input, and modest programmatic funding. The workshops and training provided to the STARTUP organizations are also available (as space allows) to established organizations seeking to strengthen their own organizational capacity. Contact Terry Plummer, the Division's Community Arts Development Coordinator, for more information.
