William M. Shea
Individual Category

Bill Shea began his involvement with Delaware art organizations in 1980, including working as a preparator at the Delaware Art Museum and serving on the Wilmington Arts Commission. He became a board member of the Delaware Theatre Company in 1992, and in 2008 his extraordinary service to DTC was recognized by the distinction of being named Director Emeritus. Since 1991, he has played an active role on the Board of the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, where he is a former president and currently Governance Chair.
He joined the Art Committee of New Castle County in 2003 where he was instrumental in bringing to fruition several public art projects at the new court house. He is also on the Grants Committee of the Delaware Community Foundation and on the Board of Advisors for Trustees of Color. This impressive list of achievements represents only a selection from a much longer list of Bill’s contributions to the arts and to his community.
Over nearly 25 years of service to the arts in Delaware, Bill has not focused on a single discipline or organization, but has worked devotedly on behalf of artists, the visual arts, and the performing arts. His impact has been both subtle and extraordinary. His skills at diplomacy, negotiation, collaboration, as well as arts advocacy, have been a unique and distinctive part of his contribution to the arts in Delaware.
