The Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), founded in 1974, is one of only four graduate programs in the United States that educates and trains conservation professionals to care for our cultural heritage. Program graduates have been responsible for the preservation of such irreplaceable objects as the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty Bell, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and works of art ranging from Rembrandt to Van Gogh to the Wyeths.
The WUDPAC program has an international reputation, but has served arts and cultural activities in Delaware in various ways for more than thirty years. The program faculty, graduates and students have become a recognized source of expertise. Since 1976, free monthly conservation clinics have been held for small institutions and private owners.
Students have examined and treated works of art and cultural heritage for sites and collectors throughout the state, and faculty have lectured to and advised countless cultural groups in Delaware, including the Newark Historical Society, Preservation Delaware, Delaware Art Museum, Smyrna School District, Biggs Museum of American Art, Dover Historical Society, Rehoboth Art League, Delaware History Museum and Cab Calloway School of the Arts.
