GOVERNOR'S AWARDS FOR THE ARTS
2010
For more than 85 years, The Music School of Delaware has been an influential partner in supporting the social and cultural environment of our community. The school provides weekly instrumental and vocal music instruction and is open to all, serving students of varied cultural backgrounds, ages and ability levels.
In 2007, The Wilmington Music School joined with the Delaware Music School in Milford to become Delaware's only statewide community music school. Through the two primary branches in Wilmington and Milford and six satellites (Middletown, Seaford, Angola, Lewes, Felton and Dover), and an additional 20 outreach sites, the school serves an enrollment of over 2,700 from across the state and region.
In addition to its excellent programming, The Music School of Delaware has an extensive financial aid program and has been recognized for its service to people with disabilities and related outreach programs. The school also hosts over 75 public performances, events, student recitals, workshops, and master classes each year at locations throughout the state.
