Imagine This
Picture our state without the arts…no music, no theater, no paintings, no
literature, no public art, no dance.
Now picture this—a vibrant arts culture enhancing the lives of thousands of
individuals from children to senior citizens, from the developmentally
challenged to the physically challenged, and from the arts novice to the arts
enthusiast. This is the reality in Delaware. It is through the creative
collaborations of volunteers, professionals, community groups, public agencies,
and artists that bring the arts to everyone. Through the commitment of these
individuals, our communities are enriched.
As Chairperson of the Delaware State Arts Council, I am grateful to live in a
state that recognizes the value of the arts and I am pleased that the Delaware
Division of the Arts (DDOA) plays a pivotal role in supporting the arts. This
Annual Report highlights many of the exciting and innovative arts projects that
are having an impact in our state.

Our Link to the Arts
What does it take to create and sustain a vibrant arts community? It takes
the efforts of a broad range of individuals and institutions from
the public, private, and non-profit sectors. As a partner with these groups, the
Delaware Division of the Arts (DDOA) expands arts opportunities for citizens
throughout the state.
We are one link in the chain of support providing grants, workshops and
conferences, and promotional initiatives for artists and arts organizations. Our
link to the arts is far-reaching: from community centers to museums, from
pre-schools to high schools, from day care centers to senior centers, from
performing arts halls to outdoor festivals.
This Annual Report highlights the DDOA's accomplishments during the past
year, as well as our links to arts organizations, artists, community groups,
schools, and public agencies, reflecting the dynamic role of the arts. As is
evident in the following pages, there are many exciting and innovative projects
that are made possible through a long chain of support. We are committed to
providing a strong link to the arts to make our communities better places to
live.
I invite you to read about the arts programs in your community and think
about ways that you can become a link by getting involved behind the scenes, as
part of the audience, or in the limelight. The opportunities and rewards are
tremendous!
